Saturday's earth hour

Happy Friday, Friends.

I wanted to write to you about something kind of BIG going on. Something to consider no matter what your stance is on global warming, in my honest opinion.

On THIS Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:30 pm, I am taking part in Earth Hour-a global event in which millions of people will turn out their lights to make a statement of concern about our planet and climate change. I want to invite you to join, too! Sponsored by World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour got started just two years ago and is now the largest event of its kind in the world.  Last year, more than 50 million participated and the lights went out at the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and the Coliseum in Rome, just to name a few. Even Google's homepage went black for the day! In Israel, President Shimon Peres personally turned off lights in Tel Aviv.

This year, Earth Hour will be even bigger-already 2900 cities in 83 countries have agreed to take part including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York City, San Francisco and Washington DC, with more signing up every day. Around the world cities like Moscow, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Shanghai and Mexico City will turn out their lights.

But Earth Hour isn't just for big cities-anyone can participate. To get a better sense of the event, check out this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjWD8pbK5t8.

Participating in Earth Hour is easy, fun and free. I hope you will join me for this amazing event. To sign up, visit http://www.earthhourUS.org where you'll learn more including ways you can spread the word about Earth Hour, plus creative things to do when the lights go out in case you need inspiration!

May your hearts be filled with the Warmth and Light that will long sustain when the world seems dark.
Peace and Joy to you.

p.s. I encourage you to spread the word :)

Update 1.0

Update Time! Aren't you excited?

Here's what is new with us!

The Moore:
*Recently returned from an impromptu road trip to Texas, with three friends in tow! Did not eat sonic or whataburger on trip. (much to fiancé's dismay...what is he CRAZY!?!?) Saw lots of friends, and stopped in Mississippi to visit Mom. Less homesick, refreshed and ready for the new year.

*Continues to work at Korandace Pool Builders. Loves Job. Loves boss. Loves co-workers. Making lots of sales because of the new law. Learning lots about marketing, water testing, and commercial pools.

*Playing the drums with our new friend Keegan, during some impromptu worship nights has led to teaching some drum clinics, and playing for some worship services. Watching him on the drums again is like watching a flower bloom in the spring (only more manly, i suppose ;) ) It's hard to believe he went so many weeks (about 14) without picking up sticks.

*Is OBSESSED with the weather. He really should be a meteorologist. Checks weather.com compulsively, watches the weather channel for hours and then wants to DISCUSS it with others.

*Is so excited about it being ski season and can't wait until I give in and say "just buy skis already"

The Shugar:
*Recently returned from planned trip to Denton, TX for Christmas with the Shugarclan. Was best Christmas of life. Had so much fun with the family. Won Trivial Pursuit (sort of), lost to sister in every other game imaginable. Ate Sonic AND Whataburger AND culvers :) feels full again.

*Have once again made new years resolutions, but this time i have made some that I actually think I will keep. All of this year's resolutions are def. going to make this year "more fun." ie: laugh & make others laugh. become a better story teller. learn how to use my new sewing machine :) etc.

*also, "drink more wine" as have determined that now I'm becoming more and more of an adult I should learn to drink something less like an undergrad and more like a "woman" (please stop laughing) when out to dinner and at celebrations. All this time, I've been having no luck wine because I was sure I should be drinking white wine & blush wine b/c of my mother & bff, Danielle. Turns out, I like RED wine. Dad taught me about the wonders of Cabernet over the holidays, and I've even successfully found a bottle on my own while back in NY that I liked. WOOT. I'm growing up ;)

*Working for AWESOME company, whose corporate office is in Wisconsin (shocker there- i love somethign that reigns from the home-land ;) ) Love my coworkers and supervisors. love my organizing work. love my beautiful new desk (we moved into a new building in november) love that it takes approx 7 minutes to get to work in the morning.

*Still trying to be a potential DIY Guru- however, remain the queen of DIY disasters and pretened perfectionist. Am trying to improve on this however as Wedding-DIY-Duties become more of a reality. Also trying to become LESS of a procrastinator (you will note, however, less procrastination DID NOT make the cut for the realistic resolutions 2009)

The MooreShugar:

*The Last few months have been filled with fun, and not so fun, challenges that come with being engaged and learning how to make his life and her life, our life. However, we have never felt closer than now. We are learning how to depend on the Lord to teach us how to depend on ourselves and one another. We've learned a lot about being honest with our feelings, no matter how big or small they may seem to ourselves or our fiancé. And we've been reminded that what other people say doesn't matter as much as what WE say, and most importantly, what God says- about each of us, our relationship, and our lives.

*We are updating an apartment in Schenectady, NY- a place I've already started calling our "Newlywed Nest". Painting and repairs and turning it into a winner. I'm excited for all those years of HGTV, TLC, and DIYtv, to pay off :) We are picking colors with the land lord this week.

*As the turning of the calendar has taken place, 2009 continues to grow more and more bountiful for us. Filled with very special events and lots of love, for sure. Not only will our wedding take place (IN NINE MONTHS FROM TODAY!!!), but one of my very best friends and bridesmaids will be marrying her wonderful fiancé who is also a dear friend of ours, my sister will graduate college which warrents a trip to Minnesota (and probably my first time stepping foot in ND, as well) this spring/summer, my cousin is also getting married this summer, michael's stepbrother is going to be a daddy, and so much more.

Okay. Update 1.0 is a little generic in terms of "what's happening"- I promise better stuff in the weeks ahead.

:) All our love! - Miss S. & Mr. M.

My Apologies

As I was taking down a Christmas Tree in the office today (one down, one to go) I was thinking about how I have been a pretty bad MooreShugar blogger :(

I've been spending lots of time blogging for A Sweet Wife (in preparation and high hopes of becoming a Bee) but as for the folks who care to know about both the Moore and the Shugar, I've failed you.

So I was thinking that it may be fun to do some weekly updates on what's new with us. No promises on how exciting these posts may be, as we don't always lead the most thrilling of lives, but updates for those of you who would like to know what is going on with us.

Warning: these updates will probably be in list form. woo hoo!

And, I encourage any readers (ESPECIALY friends and family we have spread around the country) to leave us comments with updates about you and yours. There are so many people in our lives whom we miss DEARLY and would love to hear about their day to day happenings.

gifting: a mantra

there are few things I agree with as much as this:

"Giving presents is a talent; to know what a person wants…to give it lovingly and well."
